Naomi Judd was born Diana Ellen Judd on January 11, 1946, in Ashland, Kentucky. Her mother, Naomi Sims Judd (née Joyce), was a homemaker. Her father, Charles Glen Judd (1923-2007), was a college professor and former baseball player. She has two siblings: Ashley Judd, an actress; and Wynonna Judd, a country music singer. Diana and Naomi’s mother, from whom they got their name, went through a divorce in the early 1950s. On her father’s side the family has Cherokee heritage. Seven years after she divorced Judd’s father in 1965, she married Larry Strickland; though the couple eventually separated when Judd was two-years old, they never divorced.
